Artist Statement ![]()
In recent years it seems as if I have become a migrant with my family in tow. As a result it has shaped my perception of home. This is a common theme in my work. The drawings, paintings, and objects I build are an attempt to gain an essence of personal fascination.
Often the images that work best for me are the most inexplicable, where the juxtaposition or placement of an object or idea seems to be believable to a certain point. The ideas and images that I work with are autobiographical in nature and are often displaced in an intangible space.
Through my process of working, imagery is in constant flux. This is synonymous with life. With every final image there are many more underneath. The layers of paint create history and an unseen narrative. I work from the hip and rely on gut instinct. In the studio where my head spins and my heart beats, I root around in memories, ideas, and images from my own experience. Ben Bridgers, 2006
